The Department of Chemistry was formerly the 'Training Group for Middle-school Chemistry Teacher', under the Department of Science Education, Provincial Taiwan College of Education in Changhua, which was founded in 1973. The training group was converted to the Department of Chemistry in 1981. Provincial Taiwan College of Education was upgraded to National Changhua University of Education in 1989. The Department of Chemistry has then progressed from only responsible for secondary school chemistry teacher training to also conducting chemical research.
